This is what being a lesbian means to me. We created a strong foundation for our shared lives by allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, laughing at our foibles, and rewriting our lives' scripts.

This photo is from our civil union in 2001 in Vermont. At that moment I was so nervous that I slipped the ring on the wrong finger. Our friend captured our laughter when we realized what happened.
