RN* (the source's name has been shortened to protect her identity), a lesbian refugee from Haiti, admired her Pride makeup, using her phone to capture the moment in a selfie, smiling approvingly, before attending her first Pride Parade.
As a social documentary photographer, I followed a group of LGBTQ asylum seekers, refugees, and humanitarian workers as they prepared for and participated in the Athens Pride Parade. For some, like R.N., it was a significant moment as it was the first time they experienced the freedom and safety to celebrate their identity publicly.

[Visual Description] Describe your photo so we can provide alt-text. Example: "Two women holding hands and smiling as they walk in a pride parade, surrounded by rainbow flags."
