[Artist Statement] Tell us more about your photo by sharing a brief artist statement OR answering this prompt: "This is what being ______ means to me..." (Max. 100 words)

Juli Perez (they/them) is a nonbinary photojournalist, youth advocate, and yogi based in South Central L.A.
Their work is grounded in decolonial, intersectional feminist, and queer frameworks, exploring the juxtapositions of identity and culture to create and support works that highlight BIPOC narratives.

[Visual Description] Describe your photo so we can provide alt-text. Example: "Two women holding hands and smiling as they walk in a pride parade, surrounded by rainbow flags."

A self portrait of Juli, with their back turned towards the camera. Their right hand rests on their lower back and holds a camera trigger that's pointed towards the camera. They are standing in front of a pile of bricks. To the left of them, letters read "trans bodies are spiritual." It's a cyanotype printed on fabric.
