Gay marriage was not legal anywhere in the U.S. until Massachusetts became the first state to pass marriage equality in 2004. 10 years after their wedding in Provincetown, my moms renewed their vows in our backyard — and this time I got to witness it. They taught me what love is supposed to look like. They celebrate 30 years of marriage this year. I wasn’t alive when this photo was taken. The photographer is Sue Scampoli of Boston, MA."
